Halloween Recycled Paint Can

I repurposed this empty paint can into a Halloween decor piece and I am really happy with it. It can be used as a candy bin for Halloween night or to put Mums on your front porch the entire month of October.

I had seen this ghost pattern on several Halloween decor pieces last year at Marshalls and fell in love with it.  I love a repeat pattern so I had to try it and I knew it would be fairly easy to duplicate as you will see in my pics.

I would say not to worry about messing up because in the end it will still look adorable. As you can see, my ghosts look completely different than the throw blanket photo I included which I used for reference.

The jack-o-lantern in the background is another paint can I did and that one was done by masking out an area with a Cricut vinyl cutout , using crackle medium, then pulling off the sticker. I included a few photos of this one too.

Once my paint can was empty I set it out in the driveway to dry up the remaining paint. This way the paint pulls off all in one piece rather than having to wash out the can.

I painted the can white and waited a day so that the paint pen didnt scratch off the paint.

To make the ghost outlines I used a DecoColor black paint pen. I did all of the ghosts side by side first along the bottom then built them up row by row. When all of the ghost outlines were finished I put on a few different sized eyes randomly, then a few diff shaped mouths (some with no mouths) and lastly, the lines to represent the folds in sheets.

I did two of these to flank my front door so the pics may be the start of one can and the finishing of another. They look individually different but still coordinating.

I painted the inside of the can black (handles too) and the outside with Krylon clear matte sealer and that was it!

Happy Halloween Crafting!

                               INSPO BLANKET FROM MARSHALLS

The can was already black plastic so I applied the vinyl jack-o-lantern then painted the crackle medium which you cant see because it's clear. Once that was dry I painted it with white paint then pulled off the vinyl to expose the black beneath it.
