Blue Botanical Pumpkin

I freshened up this pumpkin to give it a coastal feel using a blue paint pen and a Dollar Tree stencil. You can use a paint pen in the color of your choice.
The pumpkin was purchased at Michaels. I buy a lot of them after season when they are marked down to make way for the Christmas merchandise. The paint pen I used is a Sharpie. I typically use all DecoColor paint pens from Joanne fabric but I only had navy blue in that brand and wanted something a little brighter to fit into a coastal home.
I did not use the stencil in the conventional way by pouncing paint through with a sponge. I used it as more of a guide to keep the pattern all the same size. I am normally good with keeping things sized but I felt like if I hand drew this, because the pumpkin was three dimensional, by the time i got around to the back I would be getting smaller with my design (just like we did as kids on a chalkboard lol)
First, I used the shorter fuller branch to place randomly around the pumpkin. Once I had several on there where you could see at least one from all angles, I then used the simple vine portion of the stencil. I wanted to extend it to make longer strokes instead of those short ones so I did not make that top leaf (you will see in photo). After I drew the lines and leaves I slide the stencil up further for the extension.
I used my paint pen just to get the bones of the stencil onto the pumpkin but then removed the plastic to fill in the leaves and sharpen up the lines.
When the pumpkin was filled to my liking I used my paint pen to make dots on the ends of the leaves (and some random dots where I felt it was bare).
Last step was to paint the stem metallic gold like I do with most of my pumpkins and that was it!
I also included a video of me doing one in a dark green (looks black) but I quickly abandoned the stencil only because it's quicker for me to do it free hand and after a few I had the size pretty much memorized.
Happy Fall Crafting!
