Mini Birchwood Scarecrow

Image
There is really not much to this project that you can't gather by looking at the pictures so i won't go into too much but I think he came out super cute!  The wood pieces and the straw hats are both from Dollar Tree. I removed the little gingham patch that came on the hat because I wanted to add some patterns that I thought would look nicer.  I used my ribbon for one of them.  I glued those onto the wood then glued the wood pieces together with some straw beneath the hat. Of course you can add a face but sometimes I like to go against the tradition for a more modern version of things.  I  contemplated just doing the nose because it is a unique feature of the scarecrow but moved onto something else so no face for him. He is quite small but looks really cute on top of a stack of books with larger Fall decor pieces! Instagram:   TheRepurposedPainter Facebook:   The Repurposed Painter

Halloween Recycled Paint Can

Image
I repurposed this empty paint can into a Halloween decor piece and I am really happy with it. It can be used as a candy bin for Halloween night or to put Mums on your front porch the entire month of October.    I had seen this ghost pattern on several Halloween decor pieces last year at Marshalls and fell in love with it.  I love a repeat pattern so I had to try it and I knew it would be fairly easy to duplicate as you will see in my pics.   I would say not to worry about messing up because in the end it will still look adorable. As you can see, my ghosts look completely different than the throw blanket photo I included which I used for reference.    The jack-o-lantern in the background is another paint can I did and that one was done by masking out an area with a Cricut vinyl cutout , using crackle medium, then pulling off the sticker. I included a few photos of this one too. Once my paint can was empty I set it out in the driveway to dry up the rem...

Bee Themed Pumpkins

Image
I would not have normally chosen to do bees on a pumpkin because I use them more in my spring decor but I wanted to try the decoupage method on this Dollar Tree cement pumpkin and the bee was the only napkin I had that wasn't Christmas themed. I think it came out really nice.  I didn't take too many pics (sorry) but after I painted the flat pumpkin white, I separated the plies of the napkin . Then I tore the bees out and used a little mod podge to apply each one to create a random pattern.  They went on the pumpkin really nicely, hardly wrinkled. I purchased the bee napkins at Bob's Garden Center (local).  The flat cement pumpkin, as I said is from Dollar Tree. The green pumpkin is also from Dollar Tree and I used a Dollar Tree stencil on that one. See photos for the blue pumpkin (a few posts back) because its the same method. Paint pen to draw the lines using the stencil as a guide then fill in once you pull the stencil away. It's easier that way. The large pumpkin is ...

Reverse Glass Painted Pumpkin

Image
I made this rustic Fall decor piece by using reverse painting on plexiglass then mounted it on a piece of distressed wood using upholstery tacks. I love this technique because the plexiglass top always gives your piece such a smooth finished look even if you arent exactly careful in your painting. First you have to choose an image. You can either draw it by hand, trace it, or print it out from your computer. I would keep it simple if you are experimenting with this reverse technique for the first time.  I purchased some of the plexiglass on Amazon already cut into 5x7 pieces and  they also sell it at Hobby Lobby and you can cut them down.  I have both in my stash. They end up being the same price. I used a 5x7 and (my sister) drilled the holes in each of the corners.  I placed the plexiglass over the drawing of my pumpkin and used my DecoColor paint pen to outline it in reverse. If your image is symmetrical, you obviously don't have to worry about reversing the...

Spooky Tic tac Toe Board

Image
I made this Halloween Tic Tac Toe Board from Dollar Tree rub on transfers, a bag of rocks from Hobby Lobby and a wood tic tac toe board, also from Hobby Lobby.   There are really no tricks or tips to this project that I can share because it is very self explanatory.    I painted the board gray. Picked out the rocks from the bag that best fit the shape of the two transfer images I chose. Painted half black and half white then applied the transfers using a spoon.  One of the sheets had the "Trick or Treat" wording which fit perfect in the bottom right square. Side Note: I actually prefer that the image varies in sizes. It gives it more interest and does not look machine made. In fact, if I were painting these from scratch I would have done them in varying sizes so Dollar Tree read my mind! I then used a ruler to make the lines on the board although the board already comes with the grooves. I used my DecoColor white paint pen for this step. I took the photo befor...
